This semester we have been given the freedom to work on independent projects. Daisy, Paul, and I have continued to work with our community partner. In this first two week block, our goals included-
1. Making an official To-do list 2. Reaching out to contacts that our partner sent us 3. Communicating with our counselors about what we are planning to do 4. Continue to reach out to different stakeholders that will have an effect on the video/convocation For these two weeks, we did foresee a couple barriers. Unfortunately, we have experienced slow communication from stakeholders and outside resources that are crucial to moving forward in this project. Although we realize that everyone communicates at their own pace, it can be frustrating knowing that for this project to lift off the ground, it needs to be working at a faster rate. Another setback that we predicted was a lack of interest from the stakeholders. We came to the conclusion that the stakeholders who we reached out to are interested, but they have other priorities besides CurioCity that they must balance. Looking at what we set out to do this week and what we actually did, I was impressed. This week we- 1. Completed the To-do list 2. Set up a meeting with guidance (scheduled for 1/28) 3. Planned/scheduled meeting at Launch Fishers (scheduled for 1/28) 4. Sent out mass emails regarding the scheduled meeting 5. Created questions for the meeting 6. Scheduled meeting with potential video coordinator (scheduled for 2/1) So, despite the barriers I mentioned before, I feel like we made strides in the right direction. Looking at the next two weeks, I am looking to branch out and split up my time with this project. I have other passions that I want to follow this semester. CurioCity is a great project, but it is moving slowly. I want to be able to work on my other projects simultaneously, because I know they will keep me busy in and out of class while I can work with CurioCity as needed. I am eager to reboot my Youtube channel, and go at it with a different approach. I am also wanting to put on a social experiment on Instagram which is still in the brainstorming stage of things, because I don't know what I will do with the information I gain. To do this, I will have to make sure I create an appropriate balance of time so I don't leave CurioCity out to dry or ignore my Youtube channel either. Stay nutty, Hazel

As the year winds down, it becomes a great time for reflection. This class, specifically, has been one of the biggest highlights of my junior year. Going into it, I didn't really know what to expect or what I was going to get out of it. However, I ended up getting more out of this class than any of my others.
Through the various projects, I have learned about ideation, problem solving, collaboration, design thinking, and living with a growth mindset. Before this class, I was unaware of the importance of some of the concepts I learned about. By practicing the skills while working on projects, I have grown tremendously in these areas. My favorite projects include the self-discovery project, learn something new, community partners, and my second semester project: teaching myself how to cut, color, and style hair as well as documenting the adventure on Youtube. I am thrilled to be continuing this class next year. New opportunities to learn more about myself and applicable life skills. Just because summer is closer than ever, it doesn't mean I will take a break from this class. You can expect to see regularly uploaded videos and vlogs over the summer. Hopefully, I will also run into more chances to broaden my horizons over the next few months. With all of that being said, I would like to send out all of my appreciation to my teachers, Mr. Guenin and Miss Habig. They are true gems (literally the coolest people I know). Without them, this class would not be possible. Their hard work, motivation, and dedication to helping us thrive is extremely admirable. I love this class, and I am so eager to see where it takes me. Keep updated with me on my YouTube Channel where I upload regularly: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzwjxeutcCs2V7zA2XQQHHg?view_as=subscriber Thanks, Hazel Over the past two weeks, I have been GRINDING! Let me tell you one thing: it feels great. Putting effort into something you are truly invested in is magical. You don't feel the typical relief that something is over (such as finishing a homework assignment). You feel an overwhelming amount of accomplishment and enthusiasm... at least for me I did.
There are now two videos up on my new Youtube Channel which I will link on this page. To stay on top of things, I have designed a schedule for myself that holds me accountable. This entails me uploading once a week on Sundays. Throughout the rest of the week, I plan videos and edit like crazy. Just making these past two videos has been a blast and a half for me, because it is the first "school project" I have been involved in where I'm genuinely excited for what is to come next. However, this doesn't mean I haven't ran into road bumps through the process. There have been instances where I feel as if certain inconveniences or nerves are some sort of sign that I should just scrap it all. This ranges from technical issues all the way to me second guessing my content. Through these minor setbacks, I have had to remind myself to FAILLUMINATE. I have to take a step back, and recognize what is most important. I'd like to think that in all cases moving forward is more important than bathing in self sorrow (nobody likes a pity party... am I right?). Because of my failluminating spirit, I have been able to feel proud of myself and my content. There has even been a significant decrease in the amount of instances I doubt myself in real life situations. This tells me, that this project is deeper than just learning how to do hair. Don't get me wrong, I have LOVED learning a lot in the past few weeks about hair and editing videos, and I'm eager to expand my knowledge. Although, I am excited to also see more personal growth with it. Down below I will have my two newest videos linked, and the direct link to my channel can be found under the contact page. This semester we have the opportunity to chose our own path. To put this semester in perspective, it is similar to a "passion project" or "Genius Hour". As students, we have been encouraged to follow our passion and make a project out of it. When I became aware of how the second semester would go down, I felt an array of emotions. First I was confident in what I wanted to do, then I was scared, got nervous, then I calmed myself down, got excited, felt lost, and after all of that, I finally decided what I wanted to do. I want to teach myself how to style, cut, and color hair. Essentially, I want to teach myself how to become a beautician. My late mother was the best hairstylist the world has ever seen, and she inspired my appreciation of the art. I recall the countless hours of myself looking up hair tutorials when I was in Junior High. I would spend my time practicing on one of her old mannequin heads. Even though I want to become a High School teacher when I'm older, and that is what I want to go to college for, nothing is stopping me from following through with my dream of doing hair. Who says I can't do it on the weekends and during the summers? For this semester, I will be teaching myself how to do hair. Along with that, I will document it on my YouTube Channel and here for reflections and progress updates. I am ecstatic about this, and I hope you guys are too. Catch you on the flippety flop, Hazel. |
